We like to think we’re quite creative here at Hog Roast Hereford. When it comes to culinary brilliance, our chefs know how to get creative with the dishes we make and the presentation of every plate. But when it comes to crafting whole stories out of nothing, well that is now quite our repertoire.
What we can do, however, is fuel those that do know how to craft whole worlds and stories. That is why we were delighted to accept the invite from a writer’s retreat taking up residence for a weekend here in Hereford. No, we weren’t there to hone our penmanship skills, but we were there to ensure that each of the 45 writers in attendance had plenty to eat while they devised the next Harry Potter and/or Citizen Kane.
Put together by a local writing group, the writer’s residence was designed to give local writers a quiet spot to shut off from the world for a weekend and focus on nothing but their writing. To that end, they took up residence in a lovely venue overlooking the countryside at the edge of the city. Here, there would be plenty of inspiration just from the view out plus a distinct lack of noise from the busy town life. It was just a chance to write, write, write – and write they did while our chefs arrived and cooked, cooked, cooked!
The evenings of the weekend were reserved for a little bit of social time after the writers had all spent their mornings and afternoons jotting down ideas and writing just as much as they could in solitude. The evening was time to share some of their ideas or help each other to overcome various stumbling blocks they were still finding in their writing. To aid this communal time, the Hog Roast Hereford chefs prepped a lavish feast of our signature hog roast and other various items of deliciousness from our various catering menus. The brain needs food to keep on generating new ideas, so perhaps some hog roast-inspired stories of fantasy will come out of this one! If they do, we just hope the writers will throw the Hog Roast Hereford team a credit once they are famous!
